Who’s who in Anne & Gilbert

The cast of Anne & Gilbert is preparing for its first preview performance at the Harbourfront Theatre, June 15th, in Summerside. This year, the musical features two new faces in the leading roles: Amy Reitsma as Anne Shirley and Jory Rossiter will co-star as Gilbert Blythe. They headline a cast that sees many Island performers returning to the production or making their first appearance in the musical.

One of those is Pamela Campbell, cast as Marilla Cuthbert. An experienced Island performer, this will be Campbell’s first time in a production of Anne & Gilbert. The versatile Hank Stinson returns as Mr. Sloane.

Also returning, after a year away, is Anders Balderston as the musically adept but love clumsy Moody MacPherson. Unlike Moody, Brittany Banks will do two things well: she is choreographer for Anne & Gilbert and she’ll be on stage as Diana Barry.

Brieonna Locche will demonstrate the art of Gilbert-chasing in the role of Josie Pye and Melissa Ringuette is the well-coiffed and well-heeled Philippa Gordon. Kyle Gillis competes for Anne’s heart as wealthy suitor Roy Gardner. Appearing in a variety of support roles are cast members: Kelly Leighton, Nick Whelan, and Stephen Fegan.

The production’s young company features: Janelle Banks, Quincy Beck, Madison Coles, Page Gallant, Olivia King, Lacey Koughan, Kennedy Leard, Shania MacPhail, Dylan Power, and Elijah Smith who also plays Paul Irving, the charming school lad from New England.

The producer of Anne & Gilbert is Maurice Gallant of the Harbourfront Theatre and the show is directed by Martha Irving. The musical director and pianist is Lisa MacDougall; she is accompanied by cellist Laurie Forsyth and violinist Katie Deroche.

Anne & Gilbert runs June 15 to September 26 — three shows a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday (matine). For tickets contact the Harbourfront Theatre at 1-800-708-6505 or www.harbourfrontheatre.com.
